The Robin on my Porch ... They've Hatched!

JULY 31, 2004...Eggs hatched (Day 15)

<<< Back home

On day 15 the nest is down to 2 babies early in the day, then one at around 1:30pm. The babies are huge now, not really sure how even two fit in the nest. The mom and dad are both in the back yard with the 3rd baby to fly the cope. I didn't see the 2nd escapee, must of happened early in the moring, but I did site her flying around with the parents.

As you can see in the photo below, the 3rd baby to leave is hiding in the long grasses as it awaits mom and dad to finish his flying lessons

The last baby looks frightened all by it's lonesome. I suppose it wont' be long before he's gone as well. I also did manage to catch a glimpse of the dad in the nest trying to push the babies out.

Another thing I saw today which I thought was cool, was now that the babies are strong and standing in the nest with eyes wide open they can see the dad returning from afar and they sing to him as if to say, "hurry up dad, over here!".

Tomorrow might just be an empty nest, but it's been great fun watching these babies grow.
